video baby monitor from levana

video baby monitor from levana
Does what it says it will... The Levana Clear-Vu digital baby monitor does exactly what it says it does, and it does it well. It sets up easily and transmits a clear picture in both light and dark. It's a cute little unit that is attractive and easy to use. The nightlight feature is pretty and soothing. However... i feel it is lacking in a few features, and could use a few basic design adjustments.

First, the quietest sound level that it will adjust to is still VERY loud. I don't need to hear EVERY SINGLE breath that my baby takes, i just want to know when she's crying.

Second, the switch for turning the video on and off is very tricky to do at 2am in the dark. It would be far easier if it had a push button on the front of the unit than the slide click on the side. It's such a pain that i've taken to just sleeping with the unit tucked into my hand so that i don't have to fumble around in the dark to turn on the video.

Third, the switches on the camera are all on the bottom of the unit so that once you have it mounted in it's holder on the wall it's extreme;y difficult to change the settings.

Fourth, and probably THE most annoying is that the monitor unit has no stand other than the charging unit. It needs a belt clip and/or pop-out stand like the other Levana models have.

Additionally, I would like to purchase another charging base, but cannot find one anywhere, not on Amazon and not on the Levana website. You'd think they'd be more than willing to give you more things to spend your money on. But maybe I'm nit-picking, because honestly, it's a very nice product that i will keep and continue to use. But if I had to pick a "perfect" monitor, this would not be it. review By K.

baby video monitor with temperature sensor

baby video monitor with temperature sensor
Awesome First Monitor, A+!! I researched baby monitors for the longest time... I actually bought two other monitors before this and returned them based on other reviews. I should state that baby monitor reviews make me bitter. Don't give a product a 1 out of 5 stars because it doesn't meet your highest expectation. Electronics shouldn't replace parents physically monitoring their baby. Most people give bad reviews saying they can't hear their baby "breathe". This is ridiculous since it is a monitor not a life support system. If you want to hear your baby breathe please sit in the room or carry your baby with you. On that note, if it is very quite this unit has actually picked up on our son breathing. I finally went with this unit, because of the features and the Philips Avent name. My wife and I love the unit. It is very clear, has a temperature monitor on it (we needed this since our baby room is on the side of the town-home that receives a lot of sunlight, so it warms the room more than other parts of the house), and has lights that light up on a scale based on the intensity of the noise. These lights are very bright and actually alert us faster then our baby crying at night... I highly recommend this unit and haven't had any issues yet! Will buy a Philip Avent monitor again if I ever needed one. review By Chris

When I got this baby monitor I was impressed with its quality! I have three, going on four, kids and we've used a variety of monitors from various manufacturers and this one impressed me the most. The audio quality is great, DECT makes things interference and feedback free, there's a handy "page" feature for if you misplaced the receiver, and there's no hassle getting the anything paired or on the right channel like cheaper monitors.

I also liked the ability for two-way communication, which the manufacturer claims is good to "sooth your baby". I personally don't trust that claim (cranky babies liked to be held, not talked to), but it is EXCELLENT if you want to keep an ear out for troublesome toddlers who are supposed to be going to bed! You might be surprised to discover how quickly they dart under the covers once a booming voice lets them know they've been discovered playing around!

As far as the quality goes, everything about this monitor seems well thought out from the ergonomics of the charging dock to the ease of instrumentation, impressive range and intelligent power throttling features (better battery life). You get your hands on this monitor and it just feels slick and careful in design. It's smaller than it looks in the picture (considerably smaller than other monitors I use) which is great! This is the first monitor I used where the receiver can easily slip into a pocket with room to spare. It's thicker than an iPod Classic, but shorter and not as wide. However, it also comes with a belt clip and lanyard if you prefer.

The monitor, despite its power, is tiny too: squarish and smaller than my fist. It would easily tuck into a corner of a dresser without taking up much space. The only thing I would have liked to see is a video camera which other monitors of similar price points come with. That said, I think this monitor is well worth the price, and it's certainly the best designed monitor I've used. review By P. Colin McGraw "AV, Computer & EnviroTech Nut" (Castle Rock, CO)

boppy noggin nest head support

boppy noggin nest head support
AMazing! Don't hesitate, buy this now. Our son was developin a flat spot on the right side of his head and the head was almost becoming lopsided! The doctor noticed it at his 2 month check up and just said to switch the side of his crib and try to prop his head. Well I wanted to be proactive so I bought one of these. AFter a week, I bought TWO more, that's how great they are! We used them at night while he sleeps and also in the car seat and his swing. After just 6 weeks, the flat spot is 100% gone!!! His head is perfectly round and perfect. We had made an appointment in December for a specialist who deals with helmets and whatnot and I'm going to cancel it because it's totally fixed by this pillow. Can't recommend it enough!! review By Xan77

Tips for at home head shape assessment. My son loves to sleep turning his head to the right and at 2 months old he developed flat spot (plagiocephaly head shape when one of the sides at the back of the head is flat-there are 2 more flat spot shapes: flat back and flat both sides of the head). I bought this head support because of the great reviews.
At first I wasn't happy because it says that it can not be used for sleep, but since he can't change position by himself. Also I use it in a bouncer and car seat (works great in Chicco Keyfit 30), and for tummy time which is great for arms support. So during the night my son sleeps always on the back on Boppy head support, and during the day on the sides (I alternate sides to maintain good head shape). The boppy head support doesn't bother my son at all.

If you suspect that your baby's head has a abnormal shape talk to your doctor or you can make assessment at home:
  1. from the bird's eye view normal head shape is 1/3 longer than it is wide,
  2. both sides of the head should match and back of the head should be curved (my son's flat spot on the side of the head one ear was closer to the shoulder and one side of the head looked higher),
  3. face should be symmetrical (look for narrow head, ears poking out at the top, one eye may appear smaller and one cheek fuller, bumps above the ears and forehead)
  4. very easy to measure, this is how I checked improvement in my son's flat spot: put an index finger in each of the baby's ears while she is still sitting on someone's lap, then stand over the baby and look to see if your fingers line up.
At the beginning the line between fingers was quite big and I was skeptical if the Boppy head support will help, but here we are about 5 weeks later and his ears are almost even. The improvement is great and I highly recommend this product. I wish I could use it from the day one! review By Marley

body pillow full support pillow CU9000

body pillow full support pillow CU9000
ABSOLUTELY THE BEST! I do not know if I can stress enough how much I LOVE this pillow. This is my fourth pregnancy and I have tried a lot of different products out there. With my third pregnancy, I even invested in one of those pregnancy blow up beds with the hole in the center for your belly and spent 5 months sleeping on the floor in front of my bed-ugh! Okay on to the Comfort-U total body pillow. What I love about it is it has just the right amount of firmness and softness to support your head, your legs, your belly or whatever you want to prop up or lay on. I do not need to use any other pillows with this while I am sleeping. I do use my regular pillow to prop me up more when I sit up and watch television, but do not need it to sleep. Let me say, I am a pillow snob-take my pillow with me on vacations, to visit family, etc...because I like a nice mushy pillow. This was my problem with the other body pillows; they were either too firm or too flat and I still had a fort of pillows in the bed. This pillow is just right. The pillow is big, so if you are in a bed smaller than a queen (I am in a king) you may find it too big for the bed if you share it with someone else. I must say I have caught my husband snuggling up against it, so it is large but it's soft and not intrusive. I was skeptical on spending the money for this, but boy am I glad I did. I read other reviews that said the same thing I am saying and I am so happy I listened. This pillow is really great. review By K. Dubose

Saved me!! I hesitated to buy a $100 pillow for pregnancy. But I'm not a side sleeper, so I was having real problems sleeping by about 16 weeks. Every time I turned over, I'd have to re-adjust all my pillows. So I took the plunge. This pillow has fulfilled all of my expectations and then some (I'm now 34 weeks, so have used it for almost 5 months). I'm a pillow snob too (I have 'my' pillows that I have trouble sleeping without), and this pillow is the perfect combination of soft and supportive. Also, a couple reviews said it was for 'large' people, which worried me, but I personally haven't found this to be the case (I'm slender and 5'7", and then there is the pregnancy bump of course!)

I chose this pillow because I wanted a 'horsehoe' pillow that went down both sides of my body, as the doctor said I could half-lie on my back as long as I had pillows propping me at an angle. This is why I chose this pillow over the other pregnancy pillows that only go on one side of your body, and I'm SO GLAD i did. I cannot imagine having to move a huge pillow from side to side every time you roll over. Added to that, with this pillow I can lay on my side and curl around it with the front of my body, then also lean back a little with the pillow behind me to get a bit of a different position. The pillow is always there no matter how I shift positions! I tried to sleep without it for one night when I was staying at my mom's, and my hips had sharp, shooting pains and I barely slept. Yes, it is that dramatic!

Some people have commented on the size - it is a big pillow. I have actually slept with it in a single, queen and king sized bed, as I learned I can't sleep without it and so took it with me when I traveled (in a huge duffel bag - again, I love this pillow). In a king-sized bed, my husband has plenty of room and there is no problem whatsoever. In a queen bed, there is a bit less room, but my husband didn't complain, especially because he can curl up to the outside of it as well. It even worked with me alone in a single bed! I guess the one downside is you can't cuddle with your partner (my husband calls it my 'nest'), and I do miss that, but honestly, I'm up and turning and going to the bathroom so much that it would keep him up anyway!

The only downside I could think of is that the stitching in the zipper seam of the pillow case frayed a lot with the first wash. After that, I was worried that the pillowcase would soon fall apart, but it hasn't (it's had about a dozen washes now). I now just make sure to zip the zipper closed when I wash it, and that works to prevent the fraying. By the way, this is my first Amazon review, though I've purchased many products. I just have heard a lot of women in my prenatal classes complaining about sleep, so I wanted to share how well this pillow worked for me. review By poetrylover

the boppy total body pillow

Love it! Love it! Love it! I LOVE this pillow. It offers the support that I need without being overwhelming in bed. I can turn back and forth from side to side with it relatively easily. It also doesn't take up too much space so I don't kick my hunny out of bed while using it. I like the options with it as well. You can fold it in half and prop yourself up to read or watch tv, lay it on one side of me so I can lay more on my back with support or all the way on my side with it between my legs and rest my arm on it. Plus, I know I can use it when the baby comes too to prop him up while relaxing or breastfeeding. It's the perfect "fluffiness" and hasn't deflated like some other reviews stated. I was skeptical when I saw how small it is when its in the packaging but it's been a life saver thus far and I plan on using it as much possible. I HIGHLY recommend! review By Janelle Means

LOVE IT , I love the Boppy Body Pillow! I can't live without it. I couldn't sleep well starting in my 6th month. I was restless and up every hour. When I got the pillow that all changed. So soft and comfortable I fell asleep within minutes and didn't wake up during the night. review By Candace

infant car seat base - graco snugride

infant car seat base - graco snugride
Double Your Infant Seat's Usefulness for a Little Money, My wife and I have been long-time fans of our Graco infant seat, so much so that we would have been willing to purchase a second one in order to ensure that either my wife or I would always be ready to get up and go with our son when necessary. However, Graco saved us from having to do that by offering this base alone as an accessory.

Some other reviews have claimed that having an additional base isn't really necessary because LATCH allows you to easily move the base from car-to-car. This sounds reasonable on paper, but breaks down in real life:

* What if one of your cars is older than 2001 and doesn't have LATCH? Ask anyone who's correctly installed a car seat or base via the seatbelt and they'll confirm that it is a physically difficult endeavor. Faced with a choice between regularly undergoing this exertion or else investing in an additional base and then leaving it in place, I'd bet 99% would go for the base (the other 1% apparently enjoy a vigorous workout at the most inopportune times).

* Will you always have the time to switch? When you're commuting or traveling with an infant, time is an even more crucial resource than usual. Plus, any number of other factors (What if you're alone with the baby? What if the weather is severe?) could make the prospect of a guaranteed quick departure well worth the $40 spent on a spare base.

* What about unforseen schedule changes? When our son began going to day care, he had to be brought home early on several occasions because of ailments. Having a base in each car meant that either of us could go get him. So if one of was too tied up at the office, we wouldn't have to stress over begging out of work early during a busy time.

More than a simple convenience, having a base in each of your family's vehicles is an insurance policy against being painted into a corner when getting around town with your little one. Any working parent will especially appreciate not having to stress over "do I have the car with the car seat?" at any given time. We've gotten our money's worth out of this accessory time and time again. review By D. R. Jeanclerc
